We're seeking talented cartoonists and writers, so please send us your stuff. Obviously we'll only publish it if we love it, but even if we don't love it, we'll send you an nice email explaining what we liked and what we didn't so much like. For us to just look at it, you can send it in any format you like. To be printable, you need to send it in the following format (or similar, if you're such a big expert on reprographic techniques).BLACK & WHITE (and we do the colouring)
You'lll almost certainly need to override the default settings on your scanner software, which will probably be set for scanning holiday snaps. Go to the area of the software where you can set all the parameters manually. Set the resolution to 300dpi, and change the scan type from "colour" to "black and white" (or possibly "text" or "1 bit" depending on your scanner software). Save the file as TIFF. If there is an option to select a type of compression, choose LZW.
COLOUR
As above, but once you've created the B&W file, import it into an image editor such as Photoshop, convert it to "16 million colours" or "RGB" or "CMYK" (not "256 colours" or "Lab Color"). Drop in colour using the flood-fill tool, adding gradients if you wish. Then save the file again as TIFF with LZW compression. All this may seem picky, and it isn't the only way of doing it, but it's a good way, and crap scanning and saving in the wrong format (for example JPEG) can result in rubbish-looking artwork. Bear in mind that everything looks darker and less vibrant in print than it does on screen, so it's best to use mostly use fairly light shades of colours.
When you're done, email the TIFF file as an attachment to sven@pootcomic.com, and we'll get back to you within a few days, going "Yay!" or "Erm..."
Alternatively, you can do it the old-fashioned way: mail photocopies (no originals please) to Poot, PO Box 284, Leeds, LS16 0ED.
